My dev machine is has a license for 2015 C1 for Winforms.

On a test machine I installed a trial of 2019 C1 and it just expired so I uninstalled it, but now it won’t run applications this I make on the dev machine. It keeps giving the expired message. Before the trial I did not have C1 installed, just my applications.

Where did I go wrong ?

I also need to understand how I should go about updating my customers who have applications I did with 2015 C1. If I upgrade my dev machine to 2019 C1, do I need to uninstall my 2015 app from my customer’s machines and do a total reinstall of the new 2019 app? Will they get any issue if they want to revert to the 2015 app afterwards? Will I still be able to update and compile a 2015 version of my app on my one dev machine?

    Thanks

    Hello Brian,

It keeps giving the expired message

When you uninstalled the C1, It never deletes license entry from your system. Your testing machine still has the expire license entry that’s why it shows the expired message. You can activate the 2015 C1 key in your testing machine for testing application which is made from 2015 C1. Or you can request for a trial extension for 2019 C1 from the sales team if you need to test your application with 2019 C1 before upgrading to it. You can contact our sales team directly at “us.sales@grapecity.com” or 18008582739(9AM - 5PM EST)

    .

do I need to uninstall my 2015 app from my customer’s machines and do a total reinstall of the new 2019 app

I assuming that you are providing the published app to the customer. If your new application has a new name and have a different path to install file then don’t need to uninstall the 2015 app. if you have the same name and have the same path to install the files, then you need to uninstall the 2015 app and reinstall the 2019 app. Also, you can also make an installer which automatically removes the old file and add the new file.

Will they get any issue if they want to revert to the 2015 app afterwards?

Actually, it totally depend upon your application installation process. If you application support side by side installation then they can install both versions. if now, they need to reinstall the 2019 app and install 2015 app.

Also, I am assuming that you delete all file related to C1 on uninstalling the app.

Will I still be able to update and compile a 2015 version of my app on my one dev machine?

Yes, but keep the dll of 2015 version in another local folder before upgrading to 2019. As you installed 2019, it will override the 2015 dll.

    Hope it clarifies.

    Thanks.

    Mr Mohitg,

When you say "You can activate the 2015 C1 key in your testing machine ", do you mean that I now need to do a full install of 2015 C1 on my test machine? I really wanted to have a test machine like my customers have, with only installing my app. Installing that trial was a big mistake then, it was not clear that it can’t be totally uninstalled - not cool.

Ok, I follow what you say on the upgrading

    Thanks

    Hello Brian,

Actually, License entries never deleted to avoid the user to repetitively use the Trial Version of the C1. Most software follows the same practice. like RedGate etc.

However, you can deploy your licensed application on the expired machine. It will run without any problem.

Are you facing any problem with the deployed application on your testing machine?

    Thanks.

Yes, it keeps giving the expired message. I’d made up my mind to scrub the machine and start from scratch.

    Thanks

    Brian
