    Hi,

I am new to ActiveReports and am using ActiveReports v10. I am building a report with the Report Designer and then subsequently setting the report up on a schedule to be e-mailed out to recipients as an attachment. When data is returned for the report, all works fine. When NO DATA is returned from the report’s query, I’d like to CHANGE the e-mail message and NOT attach the empty report… is this possible with the ActiveReports interface(s)? If so, what is the best way to go about it?

Thank you for your patience, help, and guidance,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

I’m not sure of how you’re creating the email message and scheduling it. But I assume you’re creating it in code and attaching the report as a pdf or excel. If that is the case, then you’ll have to modify your code to check if there is no data in the report and not attach anything to your email. It is not possible to make changes to the email message from the report’s interface.

Thank you for your reply. I am using the ActiveReports Server to schedule and e-mail the report as an Excel attachment. Can you please share details (or a link to details) as to what and from where do I modify the report’s code (ActiveReports Report Designer?) to check for no data and then to not attach the report to the e-mail as an attachment if there is no data (I don’t readily see an option to include or omit a report as an attachment in ActiveReports Server)?

    Thank you,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

This can be easily achieved in ARS through the Site Settings. On your ARS portal, go to Site Settings and select ‘Don’t process Empty Reports’ from the ‘Schedule reports processing’ dropdown. This will prevent empty reports from being processed when scheduled.

    Hello Abdias,

Thank you for the information. I believe I will need to upgrade to at least V11 SP2 to be able to access the ‘Don’t Process Empty Reports’ functionality.

    Hello Steve,

Yes, this feature was introduced in ARS11 SP2. If you’re planning to upgrade, I would suggest you to upgrade to ARS12, which is the latest version.

    Thanks
