    When I export a report to PDF with a UserPassword value, then email it to a gmail account, when I click the attachment to open, it prompts me for the password. I enter it, but it says the password is incorrect. However, if I first download the PDF, then open it, then after I enter the password, it opens.

    I thought it was a gmail quirk, but then from Word, I saved a doc as PDF with password protection. I emailed it to gmail, clicked it, entered the password, and it opened fine without having to download the file. So the password protection in your software works differently.

    Some of our customers aren’t too savvy and don’t know to download the PDF first. And those that do, don’t want to bother, and want to click on the file and enter the password, as they do with other PDFs. Is this a bug in your product or is there a way we can get around this?

    Thanks. BTW, we are using Version 9, so hopefully there some setting we can tweak in our code to make this work. But if it requires a fix on your end, are you still posting updates to version 9?

    [activereports_archive]Hello,

    Unfortunately, the fix will not be included with the build of AR9. If the issue will get fixed, it will be fixed in the next release of AR10.

    Regards,

    Does that mean there’s no setting change we can make in the version 9 export to make this work and it’s a bug fix on your end? Or has that not yet been determined?

    [activereports_archive]Hello,

    I would like to inform you that developers have fixed this issue in the hotfix build of AR9 SP5 that you were asking about. You can download the build from the following URL and confirm the fix at your end:

    http://cdn.grapecity.com/ActiveReports/ar9/hotfixes/ActiveReports-v9.5.7812.0.msi

    I tried it and it still doesn’t work. The settings we alter on an export are…

    Dim pdfExport As New GrapeCity.ActiveReports.Export.Pdf.Section.PdfExport

    pdfExport.Security.Encrypt = True

    pdfExport.Securty.UserPassword = mypassword

    So how can it work for you but not us?

    Do you have a time frame? I ask because we had told our customers we’d roll it out a fix tomorrow (Tuesday) as we had assumed no glitches with this hotfix.

    Interesting! We tried it with our original build (not the hotfix) and it now works fine. Thanks for digging into it – much appreciated!
