Hi… We would like a basic Gantt chart of a table we use to track staff leave requests.

Is the GanttView control the best one to use?

We don’t want to allow modification, but just a basic display.

We have the Studio Enterprise License. Is there a separate reports package we should be using? Or is the GanttView control what we should use?

Project is DotNet4.8, but we will be upgrading to DotNet7 eventually.

I don’t want to use the GanttView control if there is something simpler we

should be using? Basically I don’t want any edit controls to the end user, but just a display they can explore.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks.

    Hi James,

If you particularly want to display a Gantt chart, then you have to use the C1GanttView control. Here is the documentation link for the same: https://www.grapecity.com/componentone/docs/win/online-ganttview/overview.html

Otherwise, you can consider using the FlexPivot control. This control offers superior data analysing features. Here is the documentation link for the same: https://www.grapecity.com/componentone/docs/win/online-flexpivot/overview.html

    > We have the Studio Enterprise License. Is there a separate reports package we should be using?

For reporting purposes, ComponentOne Studio Enterprise License offers flexreport control. This control enables you to generate, preview, export and print modern and dynamic reports for all your business applications. Please refer here for more information regarding this: https://www.grapecity.com/componentone/docs/win/online-flexreport/overview.html

In case the above information does not suffice your requirement, we request you please explain your use-case scenario/requirement in a bit more detail. Kindly let us know the type of data you have and how exactly you want it to get displayed. Additionally, please mention the exact purpose you want the output information to serve.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Aastha

Thanks… that’s great. Sorry for a silly question, but are you able to tell me the main differences between FlexPivot and FlexReport?

From what I can tell, FlexPivot offers more flexibility as far as visualising and modifying data visualization, whereas FlexReport is more of a structured report, that is printable.

    Hi James,

We have tried to consolidate some points highlighting the distinct purposes served by both of these controls:

    1. FlexPivot:
    • FlexPivot is a component that is primarily designed for data analysis and pivot table functionality. It is typically used in applications where users need to interactively analyze and manipulate data, such as in business intelligence, data visualization, or reporting applications.

    • Key features of FlexPivot include the ability to create interactive pivot tables, perform aggregations, apply filters, and display data in a flexible and customizable manner.

    • FlexPivot is often used when you want to provide end-users with the ability to explore and analyze data dynamically, making it a powerful tool for creating ad-hoc reports and data analysis interfaces.

    1. FlexReport:
    • FlexReport, on the other hand, is a reporting tool that is focused on the creation of structured and paginated reports. It is typically used to design and generate printed or electronic reports that have a predefined layout and structure.

    • With FlexReport, you can create a wide range of reports, including invoices, financial statements, customer reports, and more. It allows you to design report templates with static layouts and format data as needed.

    • FlexReport is often used when you need to generate consistent and professionally formatted reports for printing or digital distribution.

In summary, the main difference between FlexPivot and FlexReport is their primary use cases:

    • FlexPivot is used for interactive data analysis, pivot table creation, and data exploration.

    • FlexReport is used for designing structured and formatted reports with a fixed layout for printing or electronic distribution.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks & Regards,

    Aastha
