I am updating my laptop and need to move my Activereports 8 and Winforms licenses to the new machine. Activereports is no problem - I can do that with the GrapeCity license manager, but I can’s see how to move my Componentone for Winforms product.

Hi,

To deactivate the ComponentOne license from your old machine, use C1LicenseDeActivation utility installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\ComponentOne\C1StartMenu.

Then, to activate the same license on the new machine, use C1LicenseActivation utility installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\ComponentOne\C1StartMenu

For details, please refer: https://www.grapecity.com/kb/deactivating-a-license-for-winforms

Hi Gordon,

this is just a shortcut which calls:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ComponentOne Shared\C1LicenseActivation.exe” /d

Is this path available on your machine? If yes, then call this exe - but don’t forget the parameter “/d”.

Best regards

Hi,

You can run the deactivation wizard via command prompt. Following are the steps for deactivating the serial key:

1. Download the utility from here: http://prerelease.componentone.com/dotnet20/c1licensing/2011-t3/C1LicenseActivation_2.0.20113.37.zip
2. Run Command prompt with administrative rights.
3. Run the utility from downloaded location followed by /d.

Like for instance, if the downloaded utility is placed in downloads folder, the command will be “C:\Users[UserName]\Downloads\C1LicenseActivation_2.0.20113.31\C1LicenseActivation.exe /d”
4. Enter the license key and click on Deactivate button.

Let me know if this helps.

That worked for the development machine and thing seem OK now, but I get regular messages to re-active controls, which I do and then they work. The problem is that when I deploy to the end user, they get two activation messages, They can skip them, but it looks as though I am using unlicensed software, which I am not!

Hi Gordon,

open the file “license.licx” in the project which creates your application “exe” file (will probably be placed in a subdir “Properties”): check that the version numbers for all C1 components match the currently installed version.

And the licensing error on the customer machine will tell you which component is not licensed. Is this component contained in “license.licx”? If not: create a dummy form in your “exe” project, add this component to the form => now the entry in “license.licx” will be created. The dummy form can be deleted afterwards.

Hope this helps

>but I get regular messages to re-active controls, which I do and then they work.

Do you get these messages upon only some specific forms? Can you please share the screen-shots of each message you receive. Also, share the licenses.licx file present in that project.

>The problem is that when I deploy to the end user, they get two activation messages, They can skip them, but it looks as though I am using unlicensed software, which I am not!

Yes, that is bound to happen if the application is not properly licensed. As you mention that you are getting nag screens in the application, sharing it with users as executable will still show the nag screen. To resolve it, you need to make sure that the machine on which the application is build is activated with ComponentOne license and also, ensure that the entries for all ComponentOne controls used in the project (directly/indirectly) is present in the licenses.licx file.
