  I know I’m missing something obvious. Your samples show controls arranged in various ways, but I only seem to be able to order them vertically and that doesn’t even work well with drag and drop.

  I’ve spent a whole day searching the website to no avail.

  You can use the Break property of the inputpanel items to arrange the layout flow for the input components as suggested in the below-given link:
